Frequently Asked Questions

What are Electric Bikes?

Electric Bicycles are bicycles with a battery-powered “assist” that comes via pedaling and, in some cases, a throttle. When you push the pedals on a pedal-assist e-bike, a small motor engages and gives you a boost, so you can zip up hills and cruise over tough terrain without gassing yourself. You control your speed with your feet, like with a regular bike and you can accelerate easily.

How do I best preserve my Electric Bike battery life?

Always pedal along with your E-bike. Hills are most taxing on the battery, to maximize battery life ensure you are pedalling during a hill climb.

Always keep your battery charged. The life cycle of a Lithium battery can be extended by avoiding full depletion. Even if you haven’t depleted your battery entirely during your ride we suggest that you charge it.

Do not overcharge your battery. Be sure not to leave your battery charging for more than 24 hours at a time.

How fast can I go?

Electric bikes in the Canada will provide you with assist up to 32 KM/H.

Why can’t I go faster?

The intent of an electric bicycle is to be very similar to a conventional bicycle and that includes the speed that it can travel. If E-bikes provided higher power assisted speeds then they would be regulated like a scooter/motorcycle which requires registration, licensure, insurance, etc. In addition, this would limit where E-bikes can be ridden.

How far can I go?

Most electric bikes have a range of 30-50 KM’s and that depends on the riding conditions (hills, headwinds, etc.), how much pedal power you are providing, and how much weight you are moving (yourself + cargo). Note: Its possible to increase the range much farther with pedal power.

How much power do E-Bikes have?

E-Bikes in Canada will range from 250 watts to 500 watts. 500 watts is the maximum approved in Canada to still be considered a bicycle without the need for licensing. Please check with your local governing body if you are unsure of the regulations.

How long will it take to charge my battery?

our battery will fully charge from empty in 3 to 6 hours.

What is pedal assist?

Pedal assist adds assist as soon as you start pedaling and you can change the level of assist to accommodate your needs (large hills require a higher level of assist). Electric bikes can offer both throttle and pedal assist on all bikes, so you are able to only use the throttle if you choose. (this option will use much more battery life)

Can I get any exercise on an electric bike?

Absolutely! You decide how much exercise you want to get simply by adjusting the power assist level on the bike.

How much do electric bikes weigh?

Depending on the model, electric bikes typically weigh between 40 and 60lbs.

Are electric bikes popular in Canada?

They are gaining popularity as many of us are looking for transportation and recreational options that can provide FUN and Exercise! E-bikes have been very popular in Europe and China and thanks to their hard work, we are benefiting from the advances in overall E-bike technology.

Electric Bike Laws & Regulations in Canada

Owning an Electric Bike in Canada is easy. These vehicles are also known as power-assisted bicycles, electric scooters, e-bikes, and e-scooters, and the laws for them are very similar to a traditional bicycle. They require no license, plates, or insurance to own or operate. In Canada, Power Assisted Bicycles are classified under Federal law, and each province can make minor changes such as age requirements. What is common to all provinces that allow the use of e-bikes in Canada is that every driver must wear an approved helmet to prevent accidents.

Additionally, each municipality can make changes as to where they are permitted to be used. Please check with your local government to ensure you understand the regulations clearly.
